Arch pain that occurs with activity or when you get up in the morning is often due to plantar fasciitis. This is caused by inflammation or injury to the ligament that stretches across the arch, from the heel bone to the ball of the foot. Plantar fasciitis can also occur in the heel.
Other causes can include acquired flat foot due to spring ligament injuries and tendon injuries or midfoot arthritis.
Age, weight, occupation, muscle tightness, and excessively high or low arches all play a role in causing arch pain.
Treatment is varied depending on assessment and diagnosis.
Surgery is not often required but may be an option depending on the cause and severity of your arch pain.
