Podiatric Surgery

Our podiatric surgeon, Andrew van Essen, is highly respected in the podiatry and general medical communities and consults from Prospect, Stirling, and Darwin.

Podiatric surgeons hold specialist registration with AHPRA https://www.ahpra.gov.au/ and are trained similarly to Oral Surgeons. They are not medical practitioners but podiatrists who, after obtaining their initial podiatry qualification, have undergone post-graduate studies and a surgical training program https://www.acps.edu.au/

Minor procedures are performed in our well-equipped procedures suite at Prospect Podiatry.

Andrew’s focus is non-surgical methods before considering a surgical solution for the common foot problems that include: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rfj4FVeFYfE&t=13s

Hammer Toes
It is also known as a mallet or claw toe, depending on where the deformity occurs. Neuromas
A neuroma is a pinched nerve in the ball of the foot that can cause pain, burning, tingling, and numbness that extends into the toes, mainly the 3rd and 4th toes. Ball of Foot Pain

High heels, narrow shoes, sports, repetitive activities, weight gain, and structural deformities such as high arches, long metatarsal bone, or hallux valgus (bunion) can overload and inflame joints and cause stress fractures. Damage, splits, and tears in ligaments (Plantar Plate Disruption) can lead to hammer toes. Pinched nerves (Neuroma) and bursitis can cause pain, burning, tingling, and numbness in the ball of the foot. Read More Here https://myfootsurgeon.com.au/conditions/ball-of-foot-pain
