Diabetic Foot Assessment

Individuals with diabetes are at increased risk of developing foot problems such as nerve damage (neuropathy), biomechanical/anatomical changes, infections, and vascular disease, which can lead to serious complications such as foot ulcers.

Therefore, it is highly recommended that individuals with diabetes have annual diabetes foot assessments to assess their risk of developing these complications. The evaluations conducted by podiatrists investigate the following:

  • Circulation in feet
  • Level of sensation in feet
  • Presence of foot deformity/pressure areas
  • Presence of active lesions
