Ingrown toenails are due to either a wide nail, curved in nail, fleshy nail lip, incorrect cutting and shoe pressure. They can be very painful and if not treated can become infected.

Thick nails are caused by damage to the nail matrix and the thickening is usually permanent.

Fungal nails are a tinea infection which leads to separation of the nail from the nail bed, discolouration and eventually thickening of the nail.
