Ball of Foot Pain

Metatarsalgia is a catch all term for pain in the ball of the foot which can be caused by pinched nerves (morton’s neuroma) leading to numbness and tingling in the toes, plantar plate disruption leading to hammer toes, arthritis and joint inflammation, stress fractures as well as overloading from prolonged use of high heels.

As there can be many causes correct assessment and diagnosis is important so that treatment can be directed appropriately.

Orthoses, footwear modification, metatarsal padding and surgery may be utilized where necessary.
